Asetenapa Cocoa Cooperative uses Fairtrade to support Ghana farmers
In Suhum, Ghana, the Asetenapa Cocoa Cooperative is utilizing Fairtrade certification and Fairtrade Premiums to enhance farming practices and support community development. The initiative focuses on climate change resilience, social intervention projects for women and children, and local infrastructure.
Felix Tetteh, the Compliance and Partnership Manager for the Asetenapa Cocoa Farmers Union and a Fairtrade International Ambassador, credits these incentives with enabling his transition from a secondary school graduate to a master’s degree student.
To address labor shortages in the cocoa sector, the cooperative operates a rural service center. Staffed by a youth team, this center provides subsidized farm work for growers while creating employment opportunities for young people in the region.
