ASHA workers protest in Anantnag for pay hike

ASHA workers staged a protest at the Sports Stadium in Anantnag under the banner of the Trade Union Coordination Committee (TUCC). The demonstrators are demanding an increase in their monthly remuneration and parity with ASHA workers in other Indian states.

Led by ASHA Workers’ President Shaheena Akhtar and Trade Union General Secretary Muzfar Ahmad Ganai, the protesters emphasized their role as a vital link between the health department and rural communities. They highlighted their responsibilities in maternal and child health, immunization, nutrition, and public health awareness programs.

The workers expressed that their current compensation is inadequate for the essential duties they perform, often in difficult circumstances and remote areas. They are calling on the government to prioritize their long-pending demands and improve their financial and working conditions.
