Ashadh 2026 Month Commences, Key Religious Practices Outlined

The Hindu calendar’s fourth month, Ashadh, begins on 30 June 2026 and runs until 29 July 2026. The period is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, who is believed to enter a four‑month yogic sleep. Traditional observances include the Jagannath rath‑yatra on 16 July and Guru Purnima on 29 July.

During Ashadh, several customary restrictions are advised: postponement of marriages, house‑warmings, naming ceremonies and mundan rites; avoidance of green leafy vegetables, meat, onion, garlic and alcohol; early rising before sunrise; and conservation of water. Devotees are encouraged to perform donations of items such as sandals, umbrellas, salt, amla, clothing and water‑filled pots, and to engage in regular Vishnu prayers.
