Ashaiman Police demolish suspected criminal hideouts at Fitter Lane

The Ashaiman District Police Command demolished and set fire to several wooden structures at Fitter Lane in the Greater Accra Region. Authorities stated the structures were allegedly being used as drug dens and hideouts for criminal activity.

The operation, conducted on 18 and 19 October 2026, was authorized by the Ashaiman Municipal Security Council (MUSEC). DSP Orlando Joseph Adzokpa, the Ashaiman District Police Commander, emphasized the command's commitment to eliminating drug peddling and criminal activity in the neighborhood.

Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive Freeman Tsekpo supported the action, noting it is part of a broader effort to improve security and sanitation while reclaiming land for productive use. Tsekpo warned that similar demolitions would be extended to other locations identified as suspected criminal hideouts across the municipality. While intended to restore security, the exercise has raised concerns regarding the impact on informal workers and residents who rely on the area for shelter and livelihoods.
