Ashanti Brown denied bond following courtroom outburst

Ashanti Brown, 23, was denied bond during a pretrial detention hearing in Florida after a courtroom outburst. Brown faces second-degree murder charges related to the August 30 shooting death of her boyfriend, 26-year-old Ian Pleasant.

During the hearing, Brown became emotional and was physically removed by deputies after shouting that she acted in self-defense, claiming, ‘What about him beating on me? He was beating my face!’

Judge Matt Gordon granted the state’s motion for pretrial detention, citing evidence suggesting a substantial probability that Brown committed the homicide. The judge also noted her inability to control her behavior in the courtroom as a factor in determining that she poses a risk to the community.
