Ashanti Police arrest six suspected armed robbery syndicate members

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested six individuals suspected of being members or associates of an organized armed robbery syndicate operating in the Kumasi Metropolis. The arrests were conducted in August 2026 by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit following intelligence-led operations.

The suspects have been identified as Philip Nyarko (alias ‘Kawawa’), Hadi Samed (alias ‘Toronto’), Issahaku Musah (alias ‘Isak’), Suraj Mohammed (alias ‘Baba Nde’ and ‘Trouble’), Hadi Abdul Majeed (alias ‘Panie’), and Foster Owusu Afriyie (alias ‘Joe Fraizer’). Preliminary investigations link the group to street robberies in areas including Kaase, Ahinsan Estate, Santasi New Site, Bronikrom, and Kwadaso Estate.

Police recovered various items during the operations, including motorcycles, machetes, knives, an iPhone 13, and dozens of mobile phones. Additionally, Augustine Agyemang Duah was arrested for allegedly assisting the syndicate by unlocking stolen phones, and Fatawo Alhassan (alias ‘2Pac’) was detained for allegedly purchasing stolen devices.

Authorities noted that three of the suspects had been previously arrested in December 2025 for conspiracy to commit robbery but were granted bail by the Asokwa Circuit Court 1. Police indicate the suspects allegedly resumed criminal activities after their release. Several accomplices, including Abdul Shattar, remain at large.
