Ashanti Region communities demand urgent infrastructure improvements

Traditional leaders in the Ashanti Region of Ghana are calling for urgent government intervention to address severe infrastructure deficits in several communities.

In Akwaboa, located in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District, sub-chiefs report that the community’s main road remains unpaved and filled with potholes and gullies. Leaders stated they have made multiple representations to the District Assembly, the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, and the Ministry of Roads and Highways, but have seen no results. The lack of road access is reportedly causing economic hardship and social tension, with residents blaming traditional authorities for the lack of development.

Similarly, in Ankaase within the Adansi Akrofuom District, community leaders are appealing for the provision of a school and electricity. The Odikro of Ankaase, Nana Yaw, noted that a growing population is struggling with the lack of basic amenities, forcing children to travel long distances for education and leaving residents without power after sunset. The leaders have called on the Ashanti Regional Minister to address these needs to support local economic growth and education.
