Ashanti Region expands healthcare with 96 new facilities
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has announced that 96 health facilities are currently under construction across various metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. This initiative aims to bring healthcare services closer to local communities.
As part of this expansion, construction has commenced on a GH¢2.44 million Breast Care Centre at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. Funded by the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), the project is expected to be completed within 10 months. The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is also managing other significant projects, including a paediatric clinic at the KMA Health Centre and a facility at Moshie Zongo.
Other ongoing regional health investments include a Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at KATH, construction at the KNUST Medical Centre, and the Sewua Hospital project. During the sod-cutting ceremony for the Breast Care Centre, traditional leaders emphasized the need for subsidized services to ensure affordable treatment for patients.
