Ashanti Region launches sustained sanitation drive with Zoomlion and government partners

Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene announced an intensified, region‑wide sanitation campaign ahead of the anticipated heavy rains. The initiative, launched on National Sanitation Day (Saturday, 4 July 2026), marks the start of a sustained programme involving the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, the National Disaster Management Organisation, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Dredge Masters Limited and all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.

Zoomlion teams deployed heavy equipment to key flood‑prone sites – Airport Roundabout, Krofrom, Kaase, Asokore Mampong, Atonsu, Breman UGC, Kronum‑Aboahia, among others – to desilt drains and waterways, improve storm‑water flow and reduce flood risk. The minister warned that environmental laws will be strictly enforced and announced a whistle‑blower programme rewarding credible information leading to arrests of illegal dumpers, noting several offenders already sentenced to 14‑30 days custody.

Zoomlion’s managing director Doris Kwekwor Adjei reaffirmed the company’s CSR commitment, adding that fumigation will be carried out in flood‑affected communities to curb disease outbreaks. The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi said enforcement will be stepped up from 6 July with inspection teams visiting homes and communities to ensure compliance.
