Ashish Nehra compares Gill and Pandya captaincy styles

Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra has discussed the contrasting leadership styles of Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya. Describing the two players as being like the ‘north pole and south pole’, Nehra noted that while Pandya was an open leader who placed great trust in the coaching staff, Gill is a more reserved captain who is still in a learning phase.

Nehra characterized Gill as a ‘work in progress’ due to his relatively short tenure in captaincy, though he praised his eagerness to learn and improve. This comparison follows Gill taking over the captaincy from Pandya, who led the franchise to an IPL title in 2022.

Additionally, Nehra addressed his future in coaching, stating he has no immediate ambition to coach the Indian national team. While acknowledging it would be an ‘honour’ and a ‘privilege’, he noted that he is happy in his current role and would need to consider the extensive travel requirements of a national coaching position.
