Ashish Shelar elected President of E-Sports Games Federation
Ashish Shelar, the Maharashtra Minister of Electronics, IT, AI and Cultural Affairs, has been unanimously elected as the President of the E-Sports Games Federation (ESGF). The election took place during a board meeting in New Delhi, where Shelar's nomination was proposed by acting president Adv. Nandan Jha and chairperson Ashok Dhyanchand.
The ESGF is a national organization dedicated to the promotion, regulation, and development of esports and mind sports in India. It holds membership in the Global Esports Foundation and the International Esports Federation and is recognized by the Paralympic Committee of India.
Shelar, who also serves as a board member of the Asian Cricket Council, stated that the role is an opportunity to provide new direction to the sector. He noted that approximately 600 million people in India are engaged with esports. The federation's immediate focus includes supporting the Indian esports team, which is scheduled to travel to Japan for the Asian Games in September.
