In Iowa, Republican nominee Ashley Hinson has also broken with the Trump administration's stance, stating that Iowans should not have to ‘foot the bill at the pump or the checkout line’ for the conflict. Hinson suggested suspending the gas tax, pausing diesel exports, and reinstating biodiesel tax credits. Her opponent, Democrat Josh Turek, criticized the shift, noting that Hinson had previously voted multiple times against measures to curb the president's war authority.
