Ashley Hinson weighs in on trade tariffs and beef imports

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ashley Hinson has expressed mixed views regarding recent trade decisions by the Trump administration. Hinson voiced support for the 'America First' trade policy, specifically regarding the announcement of tariffs up to 50% on approximately $27.6 billion in Canadian goods following failed trade negotiations. She emphasized the need for trade policies that prioritize Iowa farmers and workers, noting the importance of maintaining strong trade relationships for Iowa exports such as corn, ethanol, pork, and industrial machinery.

However, Hinson criticized the administration's decision to allow up to 300,000 metric tons of ground beef imports without an out-of-quota tariff. While acknowledging the goal of lowering beef prices, she stated that the move sends a negative message to domestic cattle producers who already face difficult market conditions.

In a separate campaign update, Hinson is hosting her sixth annual barbecue fundraiser in Clive, Iowa. The event is expected to feature several prominent figures, including Senator Cruz and Governor Reynolds.
