Ashley Sanchez breaks North Carolina Courage scoring record
Ashley Sanchez scored two goals to lead the North Carolina Courage to a 2-0 victory over Angel City on Wednesday night. With her performance, Sanchez broke the club's single-season goals record.
Sanchez's 14th goal of the season tied the previous record of 14 set by Lynn Biyendolo in 2019. Her 15th goal, which secured the new record, came in the 78th minute following an assist from goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan. Sanchez currently leads the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in scoring with 15 goals.
The win continues a strong run for the North Carolina Courage, who have won five of their last six matches. For Angel City, the defeat ended a four-game streak of draws. The match also saw North Carolina's Maycee Bell leave the field on a stretcher with an apparent arm injury during her 50th NWSL appearance.
