Ashley Sanchez sets NWSL American single-season scoring record
Ashley Sanchez of the North Carolina Courage has set a new National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) record for the most goals scored by an American in a single season. During a 6-0 victory over the Chicago Stars, Sanchez recorded her first career hat trick, scoring in the 11th, 69th, and 82nd minutes.
With 18 goals recorded so far in the 2026 season, Sanchez surpassed the previous American single-season record of 17 goals, which was held jointly by Alex Morgan and Crystal Dunn. The performance also marked her fifth multi-goal game of the season, setting a new league record for such occurrences.
Sanchez is now approaching the overall NWSL single-season record of 20 goals, established by Temwa Chawinga in 2024. With seven regular-season matches remaining, she remains a primary contender for the Golden Boot. The win helped North Carolina move from seventh to third in the NWSL standings.
