Ashley Sanchez sets NWSL single-season scoring record for American player

North Carolina Courage midfielder Ashley Sanchez has set a new National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) single-season scoring record for an American player. After reaching 19 goals, Sanchez is now aiming to match Temwa Chawinga’s league record of 20 goals.

Sanchez’s recent performance includes a hat trick in a 6-0 victory over the Chicago Stars and a goal against the San Diego Wave. This scoring surge follows her transition to playing as a winger, a positional move she developed alongside her fiancé, Tommy Williamson.

Currently the leader in the NWSL Golden Boot race, Sanchez has recorded five multi-goal games this season. Her coach, Mak Lind, attributed the success to Sanchez realizing her own potential within her new role.
