Ashlin Barry wins Under-23 road world title in Montreal

American cyclist Ashlin Barry won the Under-23 men's road race title at the 2026 World Championships in Montreal. Celebrating his 19th birthday, Barry secured the victory after a massive breakaway, eventually riding solo for the final 30 kilometers to finish 53 seconds ahead of the chasing group.

Spanish rider Héctor Álvarez took the silver medal after winning the sprint of the pursuing group. This marks Álvarez's second medal of the championships, following a bronze in the individual time trial. Norwegian Jesper Stiansen finished third to claim the bronze medal.

The 174.2-kilometer race featured a demanding circuit in Montreal, including the Côte Camillien-Houde climb. Barry, who rides for the Visma | Lease a Bike development team, managed to maintain his lead despite intense pressure from the chasing pack throughout the final laps.
