Ashok Mittal alleges conspiracy behind LPU campus violence

Ashok Mittal, founder and chancellor of Lovely Professional University (LPU) and BJP MP, has alleged that recent campus violence was part of a larger conspiracy to destabilize the state of Punjab. The unrest was triggered by rumors circulating on social media, specifically Reddit, regarding the alleged rape and suicide of a female student.

The protests escalated into significant vandalism, arson, theft, and hooliganism, resulting in substantial financial losses for the university and harm to students and staff. Mittal noted a similar pattern of unrest involving social media claims of student suicides occurring at Chitkara University shortly before the LPU incident.

Mittal has called for a thorough investigation into whether these events were coordinated to undermine Punjab’s security, citing the state's status as a border region. He expressed concern that the motives may extend beyond the university to target the stability of the entire state.
