Ashotel demands urgent solution after Tenerife Sur Airport tender fails

The Hotel and Extrahotel Association (Ashotel) has demanded an immediate solution from Aena after the €464 million tender for the remodeling of the Tenerife Sur Airport terminal failed to attract any construction bids.

Ashotel President Jorge Marichal stated that the lack of interest was predictable, attributing the failure to tender conditions based on “past criteria” that do not account for current economic realities, such as high inflation, rising construction costs, and international geopolitical uncertainty. The association warned that this setback represents another delay for infrastructure works that have already been postponed for over a decade.

Construction companies reportedly cited the complexity of the eight-year project, the distance from mainland Spain, and cost uncertainty as reasons for their lack of interest. Ashotel is calling on Aena to revise the technical and financial terms of the contract to create a more attractive proposal for large construction firms and to prevent further administrative delays for this critical tourism infrastructure.
