ASHRAE announces 2026 Student Design Competition winners

ASHRAE has announced the winners of its 2026 Student Design Competition, the Setty Family Foundation Applied Engineering Challenge, and the Building Energy Quotient Competition. These contests evaluate student proficiency in HVAC&R, building sciences, and engineering, with the 2026 focus centered on a new university campus building in Denver, Colorado.

Top honors were awarded across four distinct categories:

• HVAC Design Calculations: SVERI’s College of Engineering Pandharpur. • HVAC System Selection: The University of Hong Kong (HKU). • Setty Family Foundation Net Zero Energy Design: Universitas Indonesia. • Setty Family Foundation Applied Engineering Challenge: Bandung Institute of Technology. This category required students to design residential systems that manage heat between domestic hot and cold water for space heating and cooling.
