Ashton Jeanty's ankle injury leaves Raiders' Week 1 status uncertain

Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty is recovering from an ankle sprain sustained during practice. Head coach Klint Kubiak stated on Friday that Jeanty is ‘still on the mend’ and ‘still working to get him back,’ adding that the team is ‘counting on him’ for the upcoming season opener against the Miami Dolphins on September 13.

While the team has not officially ruled him out, the injury has created uncertainty regarding his availability for Week 1. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted that the sprain appears to be ‘more low than high,’ which is generally considered less severe than a high-ankle sprain, but emphasized that it remains a ‘real injury’ and the team is far from certain about his status.

Jeanty, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, is a central figure in the Raiders' offense. During the 2025 season, he appeared in 17 games, recording 975 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns, alongside 346 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns. In his absence, rookie Mike Washington has taken first-team repetitions.
