Ashuganj: Supporters of MP Rumin Farhana attacked

Two supporters of Member of Parliament Rumin Farhana were reportedly attacked by leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in front of the Ashuganj Upazila Parishad complex in Brahmanbaria on Wednesday.

The injured individuals, identified as Ataur Rahman, a former convener of the Ashuganj Upazila Volunteer Corps, and Russel Biplob, a former senior joint convener, received medical treatment at the Ashuganj Health Complex. The victims stated they were targeted because they supported Rumin Farhana during the last national parliamentary elections, which led to their expulsion from the BNP.

The incident occurred while the victims were at the Upazila Parishad to discuss an upcoming award ceremony for meritorious students, an event where MP Rumin Farhana is scheduled to be the chief guest. While the victims allege a premeditated attack by BNP leaders, local BNP representatives have characterized the confrontation as a physical scuffle following a dispute regarding narcotics.
