Ashwin Supports Suryakumar Yadav's Return After India's 6‑0 UK Whitewash

India's T20I side suffered a 6‑0 defeat on its 2026 tour of the United Kingdom, losing two matches to Ireland and four to England. Following the poor run, former captain Suryakumar Yadav was removed from the squad and stripped of the captaincy, with Shreyas Iyer taking over. Yadav had previously led India to the 2026 T20 World Cup title and the 2025 Asia Cup trophy.

Former spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said Yadav should not be written off, noting that a strong showing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the IPL could earn him a recall. Ashwin remarked, “Where is he going to play? If he shows good form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he can make a comeback, why not?” and added, “We cannot close the door on anyone. But the way he was removed from the team, I really doubt it.”
