Asia-Africa Parliamentary Council meets in Benghazi, Libya

A delegation from The Gambia's National Assembly is participating in the Asia-Africa Parliamentary Council meeting in Benghazi, Libya. Led by Deputy Majority Leader Abdoulie Ceesay, the Gambian representatives are engaging with the newly established intercontinental forum, which was inaugurated in September 2025 to promote cooperation between Asian and African legislative bodies.

During the plenary session, Ceesay reaffirmed The Gambia's commitment to the Council and endorsed its leadership, including Saud Rashid Al-Hujailan. He advocated for the Council to drive progress in trade, education, climate action, youth empowerment, and cultural exchange, urging member states to produce tangible outcomes for the populations of both continents.

In conjunction with the regional conference, the parliamentary delegation also visited the headquarters of Libya's House of Representatives. Accompanied by Libya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdel Hadi Al-Huwaij, the group toured the session hall and the parliamentary library. Discussions during the visit emphasized the importance of the Asian-African Parliamentary Assembly in unifying efforts and coordinating positions on regional and international issues.
