Asia becomes Galicia's second-largest supplier
Asia has become the second largest supplier for the Galician productive fabric, surpassing the Americas with 4,354 million euros in imports. This follows a 7.3% increase, marking the fourth consecutive year that imports from the region have exceeded 4,000 million euros.
Galicia's Economy and Industry Minister, María Jesús Lorenzana, highlighted the strategic importance of the Asian market during the presentation of the Galicia Economic Office. The region's trade relationship is bolstered by significant automotive and industrial interests, including the potential deployment of SAIC (manufacturer of MG cars) in Ferrolterra and existing operations by groups such as Citic and Shanghai Kaichuang International Marine Resources.
While imports have surged, exports to Asian countries reached 1,116 million euros last year, representing a 2.4% increase. Europe remains the primary supplier for the region, with imports totaling 6,663 million euros.
