Asia Cross Country Rally 2026 begins in Thailand
The 2026 Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) commenced with a ceremonial start in Pattaya, Thailand, on August 9. The 31st edition of the event features a grueling 2,000km course across Thailand, running from August 10 to August 15.
On the first day of competition (Leg 1), which spanned 375.23km from Pattaya to Prachinburi, Mitsubishi Ralliart competed with three Mitsubishi Triton vehicles. Katsuhiko Taguchi and Takahiro Yasui secured a provisional 3rd place, while Chayapon Yotha and Peerapon Sombatwon placed 7th. A third vehicle, driven by Kazuto Koide and Eiji Chiba, finished 38th after becoming stuck in a ditch during the latter half of the stage.
Despite difficult conditions involving heavy rain, squalls, and muddy terrain, team director Hiroshi Masuoka expressed confidence in the Triton's performance and reliability. The rally continues on August 11 with Leg 2, covering 478.22km from Prachinburi to Nakhon Sawan.
