Asia-Pacific becomes largest global market for streaming commissions

The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region has become the world’s largest market for first-run scripted streaming series orders, according to research from Ampere Analysis for the first half of 2026. The region secured 70 commissions, representing 36 per cent of all first-run scripted orders from the six leading global streamers: Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+, HBO Max, Netflix, and Paramount+. This marks the highest six-month share on record, surpassing North America (46 orders) and Western Europe (44 orders).

The growth is primarily attributed to increased commissioning activity from Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. India emerged as the regional leader with 25 orders, driven by Prime Video’s expansion into multiple Indian languages. South Korea followed as the second-largest market, with Netflix maintaining its lead in commissioning activity there.

In terms of genre, Crime & Thriller accounted for one-third of commissions, while Drama reached a record high of one-quarter. Conversely, the Sci-Fi & Fantasy genre saw a sharp decline compared to the first half of 2025. The report also noted significant activity in emerging markets, with Taiwan and the Philippines receiving nine and seven new scripted series orders, respectively.
