Asia video content spending projected to reach $15 billion by 2026
Video content spending across seven major Asian markets is projected to reach $15.1 billion by 2026, according to a report by Media Partners Asia. The growth is driven primarily by streaming services and local film productions as traditional television budgets decline.
The study focuses on India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. While television currently accounts for approximately 60% of total spending, online video and film are capturing a larger share of new capital. In India, online video surpassed television in 2025, claiming 46% of content investment.
Market leaders include JioHotstar in India, which holds a 58% share of premium VOD viewing, and Netflix in Korea. Despite high viewership and growing demand for local stories, the report notes that many media businesses in the region struggle to convert reach into consistent profits, with many companies trading below their equity book value.
