Asian agricultural markets see rice price highs and durian export shifts

Agricultural markets in Asia are seeing significant shifts in commodity prices. Rice prices remain high across the region, driven by El Nino risks, flooding in Bangladesh, and supply tightening in India. Indian export rice prices have reached a 10-month high, while Thai rice prices have also seen an upward trend.

In Vietnam, the durian industry is experiencing a mix of regulatory progress and price volatility. While the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) has approved 50 Vietnamese facilities for cadmium and gold O testing, facilitating exports, wholesale prices for Vietnamese Monthong durian in Chinese markets have dropped significantly between April and June. Despite this, Vietnamese durian exports totaled approximately $1.8 billion in the first seven months of the year, representing a nearly 30% increase compared to the previous year.
