Asian Cricket Council approves Afghanistan for presidency rotation

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) concluded its Annual General Meeting in Bangkok on August 22, 2026, with a major governance change. The Afghanistan Cricket Board was formally approved for inclusion in the ACC presidency rotation. This expands the pool of eligible boards from four to five, with Afghanistan joining Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh as nations eligible to hold the council’s top administrative position.

During the meeting, which was presided over by ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, several other leadership positions were filled. Khalid Al Zarooni of the UAE Cricket Board was elected ACC vice-president. Additionally, representatives from Qatar, Singapore, and the Maldives were elected to the ACC Executive Board for the 2026-2028 term.

The meeting focused on governance structures, board composition, and a revised eligibility framework for the presidency. The inclusion of Afghanistan marks a shift in the rotation, which previously only included boards that held Test status prior to Afghanistan's emergence.
