Asian equities surge after Dow Jones record high, Kospi jumps 5%
Asian stock markets rebounded on Friday after early losses, as investors rotated out of technology shares following a sharp sell‑off on Wall Street. The Japanese Nikkei 225 rose 1.36% and the broader Topix gained 1.17%, while South Korea’s benchmark Kospi jumped 5.42% (the Kosdaq fell 1.68%). Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose 1.39%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng added 1.57%, and China’s CSI 300 climbed 1.15%. Taiwan’s Taiex edged slightly higher. The rally was underpinned by service‑sector data showing resilience in China, Japan and Australia. In the United States, the Dow Jones closed at a new intraday record of 52,903.85 points, up 1.14%; the S&P 500 was essentially unchanged and the Nasdaq slipped 0.8%. Technology stocks remained pressured, with the VanEck Semiconductor ETF down 4.5% and notable losses for Nvidia and Micron. U.S. markets were closed for Independence Day, limiting trading volume worldwide.
