Asian Games 2026 concludes with historic Philippines performance

The 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya have concluded, marking significant achievements for several nations. The Philippines delivered a historic performance, securing 29 medals—including four golds—to finish 17th overall. Notable successes included gymnast Carlos Yulo winning two gold medals and pole vaulter EJ Obiena setting a new Games record.

Indonesia finished the games with five gold, 11 silver, and 23 bronze medals. While this exceeded their initial target of four golds, the nation dropped to 16th place in the overall rankings compared to the previous games. During the closing ceremony at Mizuho Park Stadium, Indonesian tennis player Meydiana Laviola led the national contingent as the flag bearer.

The closing ceremony also officially handed over the hosting duties to Doha, Qatar, which is scheduled to host the 21st Asian Games in 2030.
