Asian Games 2026 tournament draws announced for basketball and hockey
The tournament draws for men's basketball and hockey have been confirmed for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
In men's basketball, Qatar has been placed in Group B alongside Iran, Jordan, and Chinese Taipei. Qatar is scheduled to begin its campaign against Iran on September 10, 2026, followed by matches against Jordan and Chinese Taipei. The tournament features 12 teams divided into three groups.
In men's hockey, defending champions India will compete in Pool A against Japan, South Korea, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia. This draw ensures that India and Pakistan will not meet until the knockout stages, as Pakistan is placed in Pool B. The hockey competition serves as a direct qualifier for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, with the gold medalist earning an automatic berth. The Indian men's team is scheduled to open its title defense against Indonesia on September 20, 2026.
