Asian Games athletics see multiple record-breaking performances

The 20th edition of the Asian Games in Japan has seen a series of significant athletic achievements and record-breaking performances in track and field.

Thailand’s Puripol Boonson emerged as a standout sprinter, winning gold in both the 100m and 200m. Boonson set new Games records in the 100m with a time of 9.90 and equaled the Asian record in the 200m with a time of 19.88. In the 400m hurdles, Qatar’s Bassam Hemeida secured gold with a time of 47.82, while Japan’s Taiju Goto earned silver and set a U18 world record of 47.93.

Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi achieved a triple gold in the 10,000m, 3,000m steeplechase, and 5,000m events. Additionally, Turkmenistan’s track and field team made their debut in Nagoya, featuring veteran athlete Valentina Meredova, a two-time Olympian, who competed in the 100-metre dash.
