Asian Games: China and Chinese Taipei prepare for 2026 competition
The 20th Asian Games, scheduled to take place in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026, will feature significant delegations from China and Chinese Taipei.
The Chinese delegation consists of 1,274 members, including 815 athletes competing in 38 sports and 369 events. The squad is led by 36 Olympic champions and aims to defend its position at the top of the gold medal standings. Key focus areas include traditional strongholds such as diving, gymnastics, weightlifting, shooting, table tennis, and badminton, as well as foundational sports like athletics and swimming.
The Chinese Taipei esports delegation will field a 40-person team, including 33 players and 7 coaches, competing across seven disciplines. The team aims to build on its previous success in Hangzhou and will participate in events such as League of Legends, Fighting Games, Naraka: Bladepoint, Pokémon UNITE, Identity V, and PUBG Mobile. Notable participants include the League of Legends roster seeking to challenge South Korean dominance and the Pokémon UNITE team, which recently placed third at the NAIC.
