Asian Games athletes report poor accommodation and visa delays

Athletes participating in the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, are facing significant accommodation challenges. To manage costs, organizers have opted not to build a traditional athletes' village, instead utilizing a mix of hotels, the cruise ship Costa Serena, and temporary wooden container-style huts.

South Korean officials have described the conditions in the container huts as the ‘worst ever,’ citing a serious shortage of rooms and beds that are too small for taller athletes. Social media footage from the South Korean men’s basketball team showed leaking sinks and flooded floors within the huts. In response to these conditions, Indian sports officials reportedly built replicas of the containers to help their athletes acclimatize.

Separately, several Indian track and field athletes are facing delays in arriving in Japan due to pending visa clearances. While most of the Indian delegation has arrived for training, a small group remains in New Delhi, raising concerns about lost preparation time before the athletics events begin.
