Asian Games face organizational issues amid high-level competition

The Asian Games in Aichi, Japan, have been marked by both high-level athletic competition and significant organizational controversies. In table tennis, the Chinese women's team secured the gold medal after defeating Japan 3-0 in the team finals. World number one Wang Manyu praised Japanese player Miwa Harimoto as being at a ‘world-class level’ despite the decisive victory.

However, the event has faced criticism regarding management and conduct. In e-sports, a dispute arose when the South Korean team was awarded a walkover victory against Qatar after Qatari players failed to appear; Qatar claimed Japanese staff had mistakenly directed them to the wrong waiting room. Additionally, the Japanese women's volleyball team faced backlash from fans following a silver medal finish, with critics pointing to players applying lipstick shortly before a match.

Further logistical issues have been reported, including inadequate laundry services for athletes, lack of practice facilities for baseball teams, and reports that some swimming medalists did not receive physical medals.
