Asian hornet threat prompts local response in France
The Asian hornet is identified as a significant threat to biodiversity, particularly pollinators, and a safety risk to humans due to potential severe allergic reactions. In the Ardèche region, authorities require all discovered nests to be reported via a regional platform to facilitate monitoring and organized destruction.
To assist residents, the municipality of Empurany has released a video tutorial explaining how to create an account and report nests. Meanwhile, in Boffres, Mayor Hubert Juge has proposed additional financial aid to help residents cover the costs of nest destruction. While the Rhône Crussol community of communes already subsidizes half the cost up to 75 euros per year, the local municipality aims to provide further support to protect local ecosystems.
