Asian markets show mixed performance amid China economic data
Asian equity markets displayed varied performance as investors reacted to economic indicators from China and shifts in the technology sector. In South Korea, the Kospi index rose by 1.8 percent to 5,768 points, driven largely by a surge in automotive stocks, with Hyundai and KIA each gaining more than 4 percent. While semiconductor giants Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix saw modest gains of 1.2 percent and 0.4 percent respectively, the broader market strength was fueled by sectoral repricing.
In China, economic data provided a supportive backdrop. The third-quarter GDP grew by 4.5 percent year-on-year, slightly exceeding forecasts. Additionally, industrial production increased by 5.5 percent in September, and retail sales grew by 1.1 percent, surpassing the expected 0.5 percent growth.
Conversely, Japan's Nikkei 225 index declined by 0.6 percent to 64,917 points. The Japanese market also reported a merchandise trade deficit of 536.6 billion yen for September, as imports rose 18.9 percent due to higher energy costs. China's CSI-300 index saw a marginal increase of 0.1 percent to 4,175 points.
