Asian markets show mixed trends amid AI rally and geopolitical risks
Asian markets are experiencing mixed performance as a surge in technology and artificial intelligence stocks competes with heightened geopolitical uncertainty. While tech-driven optimism provides momentum, investors are closely monitoring developments from the UN General Assembly regarding energy, security, and international diplomacy.
In South Korea, the Kospi and Kosdaq indices saw gains, driven by strong interest in semiconductor leaders like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix due to global demand for AI computing power. Taiwan's main index also rose, nearing historical highs, and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 recorded a slight increase.
Conversely, markets in Hong Kong and mainland China faced downward pressure stemming from concerns over domestic growth, the real estate sector, and the regulatory environment. In Japan, the Nikkei has benefited from international demand for automation and AI solutions, supported by a weaker yen boosting exporters.
On the commodities front, oil prices have trended lower amid indications of increased supply from the Middle East and ongoing diplomatic observations between the US and Iran.
