Asian stock markets show cautious optimism amid oil price surge
Stock markets in Malaysia and Indonesia showed upward momentum following positive performance in U.S. and European markets. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index rose 0.13 percent to close at 1,613.87, while the Jakarta Composite Index increased by 0.31 percent to finish at 5,282.31.
Market sentiment remains cautiously optimistic after the Federal Reserve decided to leave interest rates unchanged. However, potential upside for Asian bourses may be limited by a significant spike in crude oil prices. West Texas Intermediate crude rose 3.12 percent to $103.02 per barrel amid concerns regarding possible U.S. military actions against Iran and subsequent supply disruptions.
In Malaysia, gains in energy and industrial sectors were partially offset by weakness in financial and plantation shares. In Indonesia, growth in finance and transportation stocks was countered by declines in the technology and property sectors.
