Asian stock markets show mixed results amid tech sector uncertainty
Asian stock markets experienced divergent performance on Thursday, October 29, following the U.S. Federal Reserve's decision to maintain interest rates within the 3.75% to 4% range. While the decision provided some monetary relief, investor focus shifted toward corporate earnings, particularly within the technology sector.
South Korea's Kospi index saw significant declines, dropping as much as 2.94% in early trading. This downturn was driven largely by disappointing semiconductor earnings from Samsung, which fell short of optimistic analyst expectations. In contrast, Japan's Nikkei 225 showed resilience, posting gains of approximately 1.1%.
Other regional markets also showed mixed signals. China's CSI 300 index fell by about 1%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index declined by roughly 0.5%. Meanwhile, Australia's S&P ASX 200 recorded a gain of 0.5%. The volatility highlights growing investor scrutiny regarding high valuations in the technology sector and the impact of artificial intelligence growth expectations.
