Asian tiger mosquitoes detected in Uden, Netherlands

The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has detected Asian tiger mosquitoes in Uden, specifically within the 5402 KC postal code area. Sightings were recorded on August 10 and August 17, 2026. Because these mosquitoes can transmit tropical diseases, the NVWA is implementing control measures.

From late August until the end of the mosquito season in October or November 2026, authorities will remove standing water or treat it with a larva-killing agent that is safe for humans and animals. The NVWA, in collaboration with pest control company B2 Pest Control, will also deploy mosquito traps and may visit local residents' gardens to inspect for breeding sites.

Residents are advised to prevent mosquito breeding by emptying or overturning containers that hold standing water, such as buckets, flowerpots, and toys. It is also recommended to ensure gutters flow freely, cover rain barrels with fine mesh, and scrub the insides of containers to remove eggs. The NVWA requests that anyone finding an Asian tiger mosquito should preserve it and report the sighting via their official website.
