Asian universities rise in 2027 Times Higher Education World University Rankings

The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027 reveals a growing presence of Asian institutions in the global top 15. For the first time, three Asian universities have entered this elite group: Tsinghua University in China ranks 11th, Peking University ranks 13th, and the National University of Singapore (NUS) ranks 15th.

NUS improved its position from 17th to 15th, driven by advancements in teaching, research, and artificial intelligence integration. Other regional institutions, such as Nanyang Technological University (NTU), also saw improvements. The rankings are based on five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry, with research quality carrying the highest weight at 30%.

In Indonesia, Universitas Brawijaya (UB) achieved a significant domestic rise, moving from 33rd to 14th place nationally. Globally, UB is ranked in the 1401–1600 range, an improvement from its previous standing. The university reported growth across all five THE indicators, most notably in its industry orientation and international outlook scores.
