Asiatic cheetah project announces new conservation roadmap in Iran
Baqer Nazami, the manager of the Asiatic cheetah project, has outlined a new strategic roadmap to protect the critically endangered species in Iran. Key priorities include a special plan to remove free-roaming camels from cheetah habitats and reducing the pressure caused by domestic livestock in these areas.
To ensure effective conservation, the project aims to restore habitat connectivity and revive migratory corridors. This is intended to facilitate natural movement, access to food, and genetic exchange between scattered populations. Other essential measures include expanding protected areas, increasing field patrols, and improving technical monitoring.
Nazami emphasized that successful conservation requires the cooperation of local communities, government agencies, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations. The strategy also includes strengthening human resources, enhancing scientific research, and implementing ex-situ conservation methods as a complement to comprehensive habitat protection.
