ASIC sues former Super Retail Group boss Anthony Heraghty
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has launched civil penalty proceedings against Anthony Heraghty, the former head of Super Retail Group. ASIC alleges that Heraghty breached his duties as a director and provided misleading information to both the company's board and the market.
The regulator claims Heraghty failed to properly disclose and manage conflicts of interest stemming from an alleged undisclosed relationship with a senior human resources executive at Super Retail Group. This matter follows Heraghty's dismissal from the company last year after disclosures regarding the relationship were made.
Heraghty was recently hired by the appliance retailer Winnings in preparation for an expected listing on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX). ASIC Chair Sarah Court stated that the allegations involve critical issues regarding governance, transparency, and market trust.
