Asif Mahmud denies corruption allegations involving administrative promotions

Asif Mahmud, spokesperson for the National Citizen Party (NCP) and former advisor to the interim government, has denied allegations of corruption involving administrative promotions. During a press conference in Dhaka, Mahmud addressed claims made by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), asserting that the agency is being used politically to harass opposition figures.

Mahmud contested specific allegations regarding the cancellation of duties for youth development officers. He clarified that the decision to cancel the current duties of 112 officers was based on a ruling from an administrative tribunal, rather than an attempt to solicit bribes. He questioned the logic of the accusations, arguing that it would be impossible to facilitate such promotions for illicit gain while the BNP was in power.
