ASIMRA initiates collaboration strike over unpaid wages

The metalworkers' union ASIMRA has initiated a collaboration strike in Tierra del Fuego due to unpaid wages and proposed changes to production processes. Union representative Escobar stated that business proposals have been insufficient and “unacceptable” for workers to debate.

The strike involves supervisors strictly adhering to their scheduled working hours and refusing to perform tasks, authorizations, or management duties outside of established shifts. This includes declining after-hours calls regarding plant operations, such as approving entries and exits.

Escobar noted that industrial workers' incomes have been severely impacted by recession and falling production, forcing many families to seek secondary sources of income. The union also criticized business requests to modify labor conditions, claiming these initiatives are supported by national government measures.
