Asir region expands coffee production in Saudi Arabia

The Asir region in Saudi Arabia is transforming its traditional coffee cultivation into a significant economic driver. Utilizing the area’s varied elevations, fertile soil, and moderate temperatures, the region has established itself as a central hub for the nation’s coffee production.

According to data from the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Asir currently hosts more than 243,000 productive coffee trees, which yield over 175 tons of pure coffee annually. The agricultural footprint has expanded rapidly, with more than 634,000 trees planted between 2022 and 2025, covering over 7,000 hectares across 14 governorates. There are now more than 1,400 active coffee farms in the region.

To sustain this growth, several initiatives are underway to improve farm efficiency and production quality. A major upcoming program aims to plant 1 million coffee trees between 2026 and 2028 to further develop the mountain economy and strengthen productive agricultural zones.
