Asiskumar Gajadien responds to VHP leadership criticism

VHP faction leader Asiskumar Gajadien has responded to criticism regarding his potential candidacy for the chairmanship of the Progressive Reform Party (VHP). The response follows statements by party member Mahinder Jogi, who advised Gajadien against running, claiming he lacks sufficient support within society to lead the party.

Gajadien emphasized that within a democratic party, there must be space for diverse opinions, but noted that official party structures are responsible for determining leadership support. He stated that he prefers to discuss matters of suitability and support within internal party channels rather than through public debate.

Gajadien reported receiving expressions of confidence from various party members and structures. He indicated that the discussion should extend beyond individual leadership to include the party's long-term direction, calling for a recalibration of VHP ideology and a strategic vision toward 2050. He also advocated for reconnecting with former members who have distanced themselves from the party.
